Vietnam Veteran Event Photos – 2022

1/7/2022:

Here are the 1st pictures and story of 2022 for our VVA chapter:

Our VA point of contact Geno Marascio, hosts a monthly informational meeting for all veterans at the Allen Senior Center on the second Thursday of the month. Most importantly he passes on current and relevant information from the Veterans Administration (VA). A Vietnam Veteran showed up for the first time to see what was going on and what information was available – a claim was started 45 years ago and the process and information received discouraged the individual – so never pursued any farther. But getting current up to date information and the interaction with other veterans now has created a positive attitude and the strength to start the process once again.

So join Geno the first Friday of the month at 11 am at:

Allen Senior Recreation Center
451 St Mary Dr
Allen, TX 75002

1/12/2022:

We enjoyed the first meeting meeting of 2022 at the Spring Creek BBQ in McKinney.

Our guest speaker was Robert Emminger LtCol (Ret) USMC, a board member for the Honor Flight DFW  / www.honorflightdfw.org

Honor Flight is a network of volunteers established for the express purpose of getting as many WWII Veterans as possible to Washington, DC to view the World War II Memorial. Earl Morse, a physician’s assistant from Ohio, originally set up honor Flight in 2004.

Honor Flight DFW (HFDFW) was established in September 2008 to bring this wonderful effort to the Dallas/Ft Worth/North Texas area. The first flight departed DFW in 2009 and, to date, Honor Flight DFW has flown over 2,000 WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans to Washington, DC.

The all-expense paid, overnight trip to Washington, DC includes visits to: WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Marine (Iwo Jima), Navy and Air Force Memorials and Arlington Cemetery.

Each veteran is assigned a Guardian to ensure his/her safety. Additionally, a team of volunteer medical professional’s travels with each flight.

The flights depart Love Field on Southwest Airlines and there will be four flights this year; the first two will be April 28-29 and June 10-11.  Geno Marascio presented Rob Emminger one of our new coins.

A cruise down memory lane with the de Havilland Canada DHC-4 “Caribou”.

A Vietnam veteran with 21 bullet holes is getting ready to leave the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison.

I had the opportunity to photograph the veteran Caribou before it leaves for Alaska to continue its service.

Just wanted to share because we all remember the “Caribou”.
